A Man That Is Standing In The Grass

Brittney Nash, Sous Chef, catalina kitchen

Describe yourself in three words.

Charismatic. Leader. Entertainer.

What inspires you?

I find inspiration in my kids and my family. Seeing them makes me want to go harder in life and level up in my career. I have two boys, ages 12 and 13. The middle-school age is challenging, and they keep me on my toes. I can only do better for them. I’ve been working at Terranea for about seven years, and I’ve grown so much. I’ve taken every challenge that has come my way, and I’ve been acknowledged for my hard work.

Who is your female role model and why?

Juanita Bynum. She’s a pastor, singer, and author, and I really look up to her. She’s so powerful and her words just really touch me and motivate me. I learn a lot from her—just the way she is and everything she does.

Complete this sentence: I feel the most empowered when I …

…talk to younger people or kids. I enjoy motivational speaking, and when they listen to me and come back and thank me.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with another woman?

Never give up. Always try to reach your goals. Some people say, “It’s a man’s world,” and there’s criticism of women being too emotional or too this or that, but we can do pretty much anything like a man. Go hard and go strong. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t do.

Do you have a favorite part of working at Terranea?

There’s a favorite view of mine as soon as you turn down Terranea Way, up on the hill. You see nothing but ocean and the sun. My favorite person is Chef Jonah. We started at Terranea at the same time. He’s one of my closest friends and colleagues here. The people and the chefs stand out most to me at Terranea; they are so supportive.

Share an aspiration or goal you would like to achieve.

I’d like to own a few properties. I accomplished other goals, including becoming a chef, but right now I’m focusing on those goals as well and checking all those boxes.

Juana Beede Smiling For The Camera

Erica Magana, Server, Banquets

Describe yourself in three words.

Talkative. Funny. Driven.

What inspires you?

I find inspiration through my daily interactions at work with Terranea associates. I especially appreciate the support I receive from my manager, Nikki. I’ve never met such a strong female in a leadership position like her. She always gives me great advice, and I definitely find her inspiring.

Who is your female role model and why?

My older sister. She also works at Terranea, at the Lobby Bar. She’s just very strong and outgoing. Nothing stops her, and she keeps pushing forward. She’s just a positive person in life, who knows how to overcome any obstacles and encourages me to be better. I definitely look up to her. She’s an amazing person.

Complete this sentence: I feel the most empowered when I …

…am writing. You can look back at it and see how you’ve grown and process things. I keep a journal and write in it at the end of the day. I write any challenges, or anything that impacted me during the day, or any thoughts I may have. It helps me break down things and how I can change for the better moving forward. It’s extremely helpful. You can really see how much you have grown.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with another woman?

Make your own choices. People often say, “Oh, I didn’t have a choice.” You do have a choice. You pick your path. Don’t let someone else’s opinion become your choice. Don’t follow what everyone else is doing; you decide what you want to do in life.

Do you have a favorite part of working at Terranea?

The atmosphere. There’s a lot of really good people here that are really caring and kind. And also, the view. No matter what, if you’re having a bad day or feeling a little grouchy, you can take a break and just go stare at the ocean and relax. It’s very soothing and calming. Terranea is a great place to be.

Share an aspiration or goal you’d like to achieve.

I’m currently finishing school at Harbor College, then I want to go to dental school and become my own boss. I also want to continue to try to be better. Anyone can be a good person, but are you really satisfied? I want to continue to keep trying and push myself and be more than just a good person.

A Person Sitting In Front Of A Laptop

Gloria Tabangcura, Staff Accountant

Kind. Helpful. Funny.

What inspires you?

I am inspired to help others. Even if the gesture is simple, it pleases me to offer assistance to our guests, our vendors, and my co-workers.

Who is your female role model and why?

My mother and both of my grandmothers. They taught me many great qualities, such as working hard, perseverance, showing others respect, generosity, and faithfulness. I have embraced these values, and I am grateful to them for their guidance.

Complete this sentence: I feel the most empowered when I …

…encourage others or give someone advice to do the right thing.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with another woman?

Always follow your heart.

Do you have a favorite part of working at Terranea?

I am the party planner in Accounting, and I decorate everyone’s desks in our department on their birthdays. I enjoy being creative and artistic. Also, it makes me feel good to make someone else happy and make them feel special.

Share an aspiration or goal you would like to achieve, personal and/or professional.

I look forward to more growth opportunities here at Terranea. I also enjoy hula dancing and hope to be able to continue my love of dancing and perform for many years.

A Man Wearing A Suit And Tie

Claudia Molera, Server, mar’sel

Describe yourself in three words.

German. Detail-oriented. Personable.

What inspires you?

Inspiration can come from anywhere. I’m inspired by the environment that surrounds me. I’m inspired sometimes just by looking at a garden. I’m also very inspired by other people, and my interactions with them, especially while at work.

Who is your female role model and why?

Mother Theresa. She essentially lived to help others and lived for other people, including the poor and the ill. She’s certainly worthy of being a positive role model.

Complete this sentence: I feel the most empowered when I …

…make my own decisions. I like being able to create something of my own, and basically the ability to do my own magic.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with another woman?

Be strong and independent. Make decisions from your heart, not just your head. Have a good balance of heart as well as logic, and make sure you’re not taken advantage of.

Do you have a favorite part of working at Terranea?

The peace you get at Terranea, especially working at mar’sel and its incredible view of the ocean. The associates of Terranea, especially the People Services team. And the perks of being an employee here, there’s so much to be thankful for. Even though I’m an hourly associate, I have a 401k, and you cannot find that in a lot of businesses. I like very much that I’m not just a number. In this huge resort, people recognize me and know me.

Share an aspiration or goal you would like to achieve.

My goal is to find my passion. I’m not sure what it is just yet, but I’m still searching. I also one day would like to grow into a new role at Terranea, perhaps something out of my element, just to challenge myself a little bit more. I always like to be thrown into cold water, so to speak, because it makes you stronger, makes you think, and makes you grow.
