While Southern California may not enjoy the traditional “seasons” many in colder climates look forward to, the blessings of sunshine and warm temperatures make this a joyous place to celebrate outdoors. Few settings rival the pristine patch of Los Angeles coastline along the Palos Verdes Peninsula, home to the beautiful Terranea Resort.
While the closest thing to a “White Christmas” might be the sea foam on the Pacific, there are still plenty of holiday traditions to savor this season. Whether you’re coming for an extended stay, or dropping by with family and friends from nearby, Terranea looks forward to making your visit both merry and bright.
BEAUTY AND THE FEAST
Perhaps no holiday tradition, other than the arrival of Santa Claus, is as anticipated as a celebratory holiday meal. Fortunately, Terranea’s award-winning culinary team takes off some of the pressure by serving a variety of delicious meals from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day.
Kicking off the festivities this month, Terranea’s dazzling holiday tree takes center stage for the annual Celebration of the Season tree lighting ceremony on December 8. Following the luminary event, guests are invited to enjoy a special dinner offered at catalina kitchen.
Mr. Claus himself is the guest of honor at Breakfast with Santa on December 15. Enjoy a delicious buffet, bakery and waffle stations, festive crafts, and more! Take a photo with Santa and tell him what’s on your wish list this year.
On Christmas Day, Terranea dining venues, including mar’sel, bashi, catalina kitchen, Nelson’s, and solviva, will put their own special touches on the holiday meal depending on your dining needs. If you want to spend more time with loved ones and grab your whole dinner to enjoy in your bungalow, casita, villa, or your own home, sea beans will provide fully prepared Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to-go.
From December 22-30 catalina kitchen and sea beans offer Hanukkah specials, featuring both traditional and unique items such as egg drop matzo ball soup and challah French toast.
Don’t begin 2020 on an empty stomach! “A Night in New Orleans” New Year’s Eve Dinner at mar’sel will include three-course and five-course menus in celebration of ringing in the New Year, featuring wine pairings, a live jazz band, and parting gifts.
From December 13-24, relax in the Lobby Living Room for Stories by the Fire, sharing classic children’s holiday tales nightly. A very special reading of Twas the Night Before Christmas will be held on Christmas Eve. Guests can also send their little ones to bed with visions of sugarplums in their heads, thanks to Elf Tuck-ins that include sweet treats and a special bedtime story.
December 31 will be especially festive thanks to a few happenings around the resort, including a New Year’s Eve Winter Wonderland Family Dinner, featuring two seatings and a live action dessert bar. Kids can later ring in the New Year with their own extravaganza at the Tide Pool Kids Club, with games, crafts, scavenger hunts, and a special countdown.
Adults can say goodbye to 2019 at the New Year’s Eve Underwater Extravaganza with an open bar, late-night buffet, DJ and dancing. Room packages are available for the event, including two tickets to the aquatic celebration.
DECK THE HALLS
The holidays are a time to get crafty, and the resort will host several events to appease your creative urges. Mandala ornament painting, holiday card crafting, and candle making make for fun family activities, as well as perfect presents from the Los Angeles coast.
Whether it’s wish lists or letters of season’s greetings, guests of all ages are invited to fill out personalized Postcards to the North Pole, from December 1-24.
