Merry and Bright

Celebrating Holiday Traditions at Terranea Resort

While Southern California may not enjoy the beloved “seasons” many in colder climates look forward to, the blessings of sunshine and warm temperatures make this a joyous place to celebrate outdoors. Few settings rival the pristine patch of coastline in Palos Verdes, home to beautiful Terranea Resort.

While the closest thing to a “White Christmas” might be the sea foam on the Pacific, there are still plenty of holiday traditions to savor this season. Whether you’re coming for an extended stay or dropping by with family and friends from nearby, Terranea looks forward to making your visit both merry and bright.

BEAUTY AND THE FEAST

Perhaps no holiday tradition, other than the arrival of Santa Claus, gets everyone more excited than the much-anticipated holiday meal. Fortunately, Terranea’s award-winning culinary team takes off some of the pressure by serving a variety of delicious meals from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day.

Kicking off the festivities this month, Terranea’s dazzling holiday tree takes center stage for the Annual Celebration of the Season tree lighting ceremony on December 3. Guests may enjoy a special dinner afterward at catalina kitchen. Each evening at sundown from December 12-20, the Lobby Living Room will host the Lighting of the Menorah to celebrate the eight days of Hanukkah.

Santa is the guest of honor at Breakfast with Santa on December 9 at 9, 9:30 and 10 a.m. Enjoy a buffet breakfast and tell Santa what’s on your wish list this year.

On Christmas Day, many of the Terranea dining venues, including mar’selbashicatalina kitchen and Nelson’s, will put their own special touches on the holiday meal depending on your dining needs. If you want to spend more time with loved ones and grab your whole dinner to enjoy in your bungalow, villa, casita or own home, sea beans will provide full Thanksgiving meals to go. Order until December 20, with curbside pickup on December 24 and 25.

From December 12-20, catalina kitchen and sea beans offer Hanukkah specials, featuring traditional items such as matzo ball soup, challah French toast, rugelach and more.

Don’t begin 2017 on an empty stomach. “A Night in New Orleans” New Year’s Eve Dinner at mar’sel will include three-course and five-course menus in celebration of ringing in the New Year. Seatings will be available from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m.

ILLUMINATING EVENTS

Also in the Lobby Living Room, the Terranea Elves will delight the imagination of both young and old nightly with Holiday Stories by the Fire, with a special reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve. Guests can also send their little ones to bed with visions of sugarplums in their heads, thanks to Elf Tuck-ins that include sweet treats and a special bedtime story.

December 31 will be especially festive thanks to a few happenings around the resort, including a New Year’s Eve Enchanted Forest with seated dinner beginning at 7:30 p.m. Little ones can then ring in the New Year with their own extravaganza at the Tide Pool Kids Club until 1 a.m. with games, crafts, scavenger hunts and a special countdown.

Adults can count down at the New Year’s Eve Extravaganza with an open bar, late-night buffet and live music entertainment from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

DECK THE HALLS

The holidays are a time to get crafty, and the resort will host several events to appease your creative urges. Weekly Succulent wreath making and holiday sign decorating make for fun family activities, as well as perfect presents from the Los Angeles coast.

Whether it’s wish lists or letters of season’s greetings, guests of all ages are invited to fill out personalized Postcards to the North Pole, from December 1-24.

THAT’S A WRAP

Saturdays and Sundays in December, marea boutique presents luxury, grace and style with exclusive designer pop-up shops, including the best designers and brand representatives at your service to help you pick out the perfect present. From December 26 to 31, marea boutique shoppers are invited to book complimentary personal shopping appointments to seek New Year’s wares such as cocktail dresses and jewelry for women and ties, wovens and jackets for men—while sipping a glass of Champagne. Cheers to that!
